Sydney: Severe thunderstorms are currently impacting northern NSW, the South Coast, and parts of Sydney, posing a risk of flash floods.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued warnings for heavy rainfall in Sydney, particularly near Sydney Airport and Randwick. The slow-moving storm cell has led to incidents reported to the State Emergency Service, with 139 incidents in the past 24 hours.

The wet and stormy weather is expected to persist until Boxing Day, disrupting traditional Christmas activities. The annual Sydney to Hobart yacht race may face challenges, including the potential for hail along the route. While isolated flash flooding is likely, widespread flooding is not anticipated.

The focus areas for severe storms include the South Coast, Northern Tablelands, and Northern Rivers regions, with risks of wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rainfall. NSW SES has flood warnings in place, mostly on the South Coast. The incidents reported range from leaking roofs to downed power lines and water on roads.
